clans follow separate paths to Sunpu Castle, as Gennosuke
seeks the solution to the riddle of this costly ninja war.
But treachery and death follow hard at their heels, as those
blinded by hatred seek to shorten the lists. Oboro, convinced
death shall be delivered by love's own hands, has become a
prisoner within her own clan. The past weighs far too heavily
on the present, and the path to carnage is one that cannot
be escaped once begun. No mercy will be spared to the enemy...
tells a story of star-crossed love set against the backdrop
of a bloody conflict between two rival ninja clans. Based
on the popular manga by Masaki Segawa, itself an adaptation
of best-selling author Futaro Yamada's 1958 historical novel
The Kouga Ninja Scrolls, and produced by Studio Gonzo
(Speed Grapher; Samurai 7; Gantz;
Burst Angel), Basilisk is a character-driven
period piece packed with super-ninja combat action and plenty
of graphic bloodshed.
on Volume 4 include:
Swarm of Butterflies: Kisaragi Saemon, now having the
appearance of Mino Nenki, begins to confront Hotarubi. As
the Kouga ready themselves to continue on to Sunpu Castle,
Tenzen knowing they can not wait for Nenki and Harutobi, leads
the Igas across the ocean in hopes of stopping Gennosuke before
he reaches his destination. However, Amayo Jingoro is, understandably,
a little nervous about being surrounded by salt water.
Flower: As the Igas cross the sea, Tenzen orchestrates
it so that he can be alone with Oboro. He takes the opportunity
to force himself upon her, telling her that she must take
a husband from the Iga clan. Oboro's screams leave Koshiro
torn between his master and the clan leader. Meanwhile, thanks
to all of the confusion, a hidden enemy makes his move.
Kasumi Gyoubu gives away his hidden position in a bid to throttle
Tenzen to death. Once he's killed Tenzen he moves onto Jingoro.
But Tenzen is not as easy to kill as Gyoubu thought. There's
also a flashback to give us Gyoubu's point of view. Here we
learn about Gyoubu's relationship with his father - and how
his tragic murder set Gyoubu on a course of revenge.
Impressions: This is a flashback episode that takes us
back to a time before the disintegration of the none hostilities
pact. We see a lot of the now dead clan members joking around
and discussing the pact as well as an arranged marriage.

you haven't been following this show, then this is not the
disc to start with. This is one of those anime series that
is impossible to pick up and run with halfway through. However,
those that have been following the previous discs will love
this collection of episodes which see a few more names scrubbed
from the scrolls.
