In a world ravaged by ecological disasters and nuclear warfare, the surviving humans are forced to coexist with their android servants, AutoReivs, in a huge domed city called Romdo. A utopian dream where every aspect of life is controlled and regulated, Romdo is a paradise where feelings have been discarded and emotions are no longer required.
But this peaceful idyll is threatened by a series of murders believed to have been committed by berserk robots, sent out of control after becoming infected with the Cogito Virus, which has made them aware of their own existence. Tasked with investigating the murders are Re-l Mayer, a young female inspector from the Civilian Intelligence Office, and her AutoReiv partner, Iggy...

Ergo Proxy is a futuristic, science-fiction suspense thriller with gothic cyberpunk undertones. Directed by Shuko Murase (Witch Hunter ROBIN, Samurai Champloo) and scripted by Dai Sato (Samurai Champloo, Casshern, Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Cowboy Bebop), Ergo Proxy comes to DVD having already attracted considerable attention due to the fact that Radiohead liked it so much they allowed the producers to use their song "Paranoid Android" as the show's closing theme.

Vincent finds himself in an unfamiliar room where a mysterious individual who seems to know him quite well confronts him. While Vincent struggles against his inner demons, the delicate balance of control in Romdo begins a slow descent into chaos as Raul and Daedalus agree to work together and fix the growing threat. However, their intent is not entirely pure as each one of them has a deep and ugly ulterior motive.

Episodes on this DVD include:

Angel's Share (Shards of Brilliance): Vincent awakens to discover that he and Pino have been rescued and brought to a strange tower. Their rescuer, the mysterious Kazukisu Hauer, is hiding something from his guests. When Vincent stumbles upon a room full of AutoReives, Kazukisu tells them they are knights that were sent to Halos during the war - having previously destroyed the inhabitants of Asura. Kazukisu seems to be drowning his sorrows - he consumes glass after glass of expensive red wine - and eventually reveals to Vincent that he lost his soulmate, Senekisu, who was killed. Vincent also discovers that Kazukishu knows a lot about him too - information that even Vincent wasn't aware of.

Cytotropism (Existence): Raul is dispatched by the Bureau to investigate Daedalus's office when it is discovered that he has concealing the dead Proxy's body without their approval. Raul discovers that Daedalus faked Re-l Mayer's death certificate and that she is still alive.

Anamunesisu (In The white Darkness): Wandering around in the mist looking for Pino, Vincent stumbles upon a mysterious bookstore in the middle of nowhere. Here he meets a librarian who acts as Vincent's subconscious, in order to bring Ergo Proxy to the surface and fight over the dominance of Vincent's body.

Hideout (When You're Smiling): Re-l has finally caught up with Vincent. After Re-l tells Vincent that she things the Proxy is somehow connected to Vincent, he reveals the truth about himself and confesses to Re-l that he loves her. But, when a stranger appears, Re-l is about to witness Vincent's secret firsthand.

Volume Three in the series gives the plot a serious boost as a few more pieces of the puzzle fall into place. The first two episodes provide possibly a bit too much verbal exposition, but are still extremely enjoyable.

Sadly there are no extras at all on this release - unless you include the two trailers for other releases.
