Planet earth is under attack from alien invaders and the Earth
Defence Force is mankind's only real chance of survival. As
part of this crack fighting squad you must battle against
giant alien invaders in your quest to ensure that mankind
lives to fight another day...
Earth
Defence Force 2017 throws players on to the front lines
of an onslaught of extraterrestrial invaders, with swarms
of enemies on screen at once.
In
each level you have the option to choose the difficulty level
- the more difficult you opt for the more the weapons upgrades
you will be rewarded with. You start off with a relatively
simple mission - find and destroy the swarm of giant mechanical
alien ants that are causing havoc in the middle of the city.
But that's just the start of your problems. As you progress
through the levels you'll
come up against hordes of alien Invaders. Not only will you
have to stand your ground against giant ants and spiders,
but there are also robots and monsters standing more than
20 stories tall to deal with too. With non-stop swarms of
literally hundreds of enemies on screen at once, your heart
will be racing as you fight to stay alive.
You
can carry two weapons at once. You choose these before each
level begins. Eventually, once you've unlocked the numerous
weapons available, you be able to choose between 150 weapon
variations. These including assault rifles, rocket launchers,
flamethrowers and grenades. But be careful where you aim -
some of the more powerful weapons will also bring down the
city's buildings - as well as other members of your team if
they stray into your line of fire.
You
can either play alone, with the support of computer AI-controlled
Earth Defence Force team mates, or you can join forces with
live team mates in co-op mode and battle together.
While
the graphics may not be at the cutting edge of gaming technology,
the developers have used this to their advantage - presenting
us with a retro Hollywood b-movie feel to the whole game.
To be brutally honest the graphics are not really important.
It's the game play that will suck you in and keep you playing.
The
game's price tag (a bargain £25) is another reason to
snap this up. A great piece of mindless fun awaits those who
join forces to defend the earth.
