The Last Shadow Puppets new single 'My Mistakes Were Made For You' is taken from the band's Mercury nominated The Age of the Understatement album. The single features the London Metropolitan Orchestra, conducted by Owen Pallet. For those that don't already know, The Last Shadow Puppets is the product of Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner and Miles Kane from The Rascals. When listening to the 'My Mistakes Were Made For You' I couldn't help but be reminded of the older John Barry Bond themes. Is this the band's way of making themselves known to the Bond producers hoping that they'll think of them for a future 007 theme song? Let's hope not. These days that usually spells the end of a musical career. The CD is supposed to come with two additional tracks, but the CD we received for review only included the single. Additional tracks include a live orchestrated version of the band's 'Separate and Ever Deadly' (Live from New Theatre, Oxford) and 'My Little Red Book' (Live from New Theatre, Oxford). The single itself is incredibly well produced and is bound to be a huge hit. The orchestral arrangement really does help to elevate the song several levels above the norm. It's just a shame we can't comment on the additional live tracks. 9 Nick Smithson |
