For
those who have wondered what its like to be able to write
their own science fiction series or how to get started in
the business Titan claims to have some of the answers with
the launch of its
Writing Science Fiction and Fantasy Television.
The
actual title is a little misleading as all this novel really
offers is a collection of interviews with some of the genres
leading writers - including Chris Carter, D.C. Fontana, J.
Michael Straczynski and Joss Whedon.
For
each writer there is a brief CV which explains how they got
to their final rung on the writing ladder, some info on their
show/s and a fairly shallow interview.
While
it is all fairly interesting stuff, wading through 250 pages
of this is not my idea of entertainment and it's hard to see
who this is targeted at. Sure, it's mildly entertaining and
is fine to dip in and out of. But if you are buying this under
the impression that it will help you get a foot in the door
of the industry you are in for a shock.
Most
of the information that is available here has been heard before
in interviews and simply collecting them all together does
not make a good read.
Sadly
disappointing.
