There is a great disturbance in the Force. The Republic is crumbling under the leadership of supreme chancellor Palpatine. Anakin Skywalker has come of age at a time of great upheaval. When an attempt on Senator Padme Amidala's life brings them together for the first time in 10 years. It is clear that time has not dulled Anakin's intense feelings for the beautiful diplomat...

Available three weeks before the movie Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones is one book that must be on every Star Wars fans shopping list. And for those fans who go to see the movie and want a little more background information on the proceedings of Lucas' latest film this is the best place to get it.

R.A. Salvatore is at his best when writing about events which are only hinted at in the movie. Here he plots the disappearance of Anakin's mother and explains how his stepfather lost his leg - something which is not explained in the movie. Apparantly these scenes were written after conversations with Lucas himself.

When Salvatore is closely following the original screenplay he quickly slips into auto pilot and, am sorry to say it shows. His writing is fluid and effective when he is allowed a little freedom, but shackle him to a rigid, scripted plot and things start to drag a little.

The book is an entertaining read and will no doubt appeal to Star Wars fans.
