                    Ensign
Alana Hart is killed in unusual circumstances and as questions
are raised about her death Captain Archer must also deal with
another tense situation - an escalating war between two civilisations...
                  What
Price Honor? is an immensely engaging read. The story
is centred around armoury officer Malcolm Reed and
the young ensign he falls in love with. The chapters alternate
between the present and the past, starting with the events
after the death of Alana Hart and in flashback style we witness
the events that led to her sad demise.
                  At
times this narrative is a little on the confusing side, but
as we get closer to the present everything slots into place
and so that the reader doesn't feel alone, Malcolm also starts
to become disoriented between what is the past and what is
                    happening 'now'.
                  The
secondary plot regarding interplanetary war has been done
before, but there is another reason for these events, other
than to fill out pages while the main plot is revealed.
                  One
problem is that the blurb on the back of the novel seems to
give away a huge part of the book - detailing events which
are not revealed until the last few chapters of the book.
Oh, and this information is also incorrect. The person who
was responsible for writing it should be taken out and shot.
                  While
the twist ending is well signposted it is still well executed.
This series is still in its infancy, but if this book is typical
of the quality that we can expect in the future, then fans
of the series will not be disappointed.
