In
this, the unauthorised guide to the first season of 24,
author Keith Topping scrutinises all 24 episodes and highlights
the characters, the plot twists, the influences and the great
moments, providing a commentary on the longest day of Jack
Bauer's life...
Those
of you familiar with Toppings previous guide books will feel
right at home with A Day in the Life. All the familiar
sections are here and the look carries on from his wonderfully
constructed Stargate SG-1 Guide.
There
are some fantastically funny (not to mention very worthy)
additions to this guide book. These include Points at Which
Kim/Teri Needs a Slap (and there are many); You May
Remember Me From... (a guide to guest stars previous acting
appearances) and Soundtrack (which lists any musical
influences). There is also a question raised about just what
is going on with Kim's shoes throughout the day.
Telos
have done a fantastic job of producing this book. There is
a lovely
finish to the cover and the incredibly handy section index,
that was included in the previously mentioned Stargate
SG-1 Guide, is used again to help the reader find the
correct hour they are looking for even when the book is closed.
Yet
again Topping produces a work that both he and 24 fans
can be proud of. Anyone who loved the first season will want
to own this book. Not only will it reveal more than a handful
of nuggets of interesting information (Did you know that during
a TV interview Kiefer Sutherland unintentionally gave away
the surprise ending to one episode over a month before it
aired?) but it will also make you realise that nitpicking
is not just for geeks.
This
is one of the most well thought out and impressively researched
guide books I have ever read. I can only hope that Topping
is making notes now for a follow up guide to the second season.
