ET is back. the film, the merchandising and the novelisation
of the screenplay. Which is probably a mixed blessing. But
at least the book of the film is worth the price of admission.
For a mere £6.99 you can relive the adventures of ET
and his human friends in a novelisation that is both true
to the movie while also having some real literary worth -
which is not always the case with these things.
Kotzwinkle's
obvious liking for his subject matter, combined with his skills
as a wordsmith, breathes life into the celluloid characters.
This is a no mere screen-to-page reworking - it is a 'real'
book, and an entertaining one. If only all children's books
were this good then literacy rates among the young might improve
- it seems that the ET magic is still working.
