                    Identical
female twins Gerda and Idun Asmund lost their human parents
while they were young and were raised as warriors on the Klingon
homeworld. Once they reached maturity, they continued to depend
on each other as helm officer and navigator on the Starship
                    Stargazer.
But that bond is tested when a transporter mishap deposits
a beautiful woman from another universe on the Stargazer.
As captain Picard pits the Stargazer
against a savage alien species in an attempt to send their
visitor home, Gerda comes to suspect the woman of treachery.
But is she following her Klingon instincts or succumbing to
                    simple jealousy?...
                  Stargazer:
                    Three can
hardly be accused of being original. A
rift in the fabric of space threatens the lives of Jean-Luc
Picard and the Stargazer's crew. So to patch everything
up they have to seal an anomaly in the Mirror Universe, a
rift that may ultimately destroy the Federation. Sorry if
that's spoilt the origins of the mysterious visitor, but it
is pretty obvious who she is.
                  That
damn Mirror Universe! Won't it ever go away. Okay, while I
admit that this can be a fun device when used in a TV show,
it does become a little tedious when included in a book. Oh
look! They look just like us, but with Goatee beards - they
must be from an alternate reality... please!
                  The
warlike Balduk, who refuse to grant the Stargazer passage
to the vicinity of the tear, are intriguing and should be
                    included in more Trek books.
                  It's
not that this is badly written, far from it, it's just that
rehashing old TV show ideas and passing them off as a book
is lazy. Also, why doesn't Picard mention this incident in
The Next Generation when confronted with a similar
                    predicament?
                  Average
                    - and I'm being generous!
