This Christmas Sabrina's shopping list is a lot bigger
than her bank account. In order to earn some extra cash, she
lands herself a part-time job as one of Santa's elves in the
local shopping mall. Sabrina conjures up loads of toys to
calm down cranky kids. The only problem is that she has zapped
the toys from the real Santa's carefully calculated stock,
and they're not easily replaced. If Sabrina is going to save
Christmas, then she's going to have to catch the next sleigh
to the North Pole and roll up her sleeves in Santa's workshop...
"Oh
no!" I hear you cry. "Not a Christmas themed book!"
Well, normally I'd agree with you that festive stories are
usually as funny as having your teeth pulled, but Sabrina's
Christmas Crisis manages to do it with tongue firmly
placed in cheek.
I
have to admit to being somewhat of a fan of Nancy Krulik's
writing for this series. Never patronising to her young audience,
she weaves a very engaging story and throws in just the right
amount of humour to keep older readers - and fans of the TV
series - hooked.
I
loved the way that Krulik keeps the magic of Christmas alive
by having Sabrina go to the real (wink) Santa's workshop to
save the day. This is something that is becoming increasingly
rare as less and less children seem to be brought up to believe
in the jolly present giver.
This
is one of those books that I will certainly be reading again
in the future - possibly one I'll get out every Christmas
for a good laugh.
Krulik
has already made one reader merry before Christmas, and I'm
sure many more young readers will be having a merrier Christmas
thanks to her engaging writing.
