Lestat
is back with a vengeance, and in thrall to Rowan Mayfair.
Moving through the worlds of Blackwood Farm and the Mayfair
family, he finds himself ensnared by love and loyalty. Told
in Lestat's inimitable style - mocking and seductive, cool
but full of passion - the Vampire Lestat takes up once more
the story of his own struggle between the lust for blood and
his quest for love...
Blood
Canticle is the latest in The Vampire Chronicles
series from master storyteller Anne Rice. It's probably fair
to say that unless you have been following Lestat's life (or
death) in previous novels then you are likely to find this
a little heavy going. If, on the other hand, you have read
all of the previous novels then you will have eagerly awaiting
the launch of this novel.
Lestat,
once the embodiment of evil, is following the transformation
set in motion with Memnoch the Devil, struggling with his
vampiredom, drawn to kill but tempted by goodness. All of
the other characters familiar to readers of this series are
present and correct including Mona Mayfair who returned to
Blackwood Farm in order to die and ended up being brought
into the realm of the undead; Her uncle, Julian Mayfair, Mona's
guardian who has sworn to torment Lestat for the injustice
he served Mona; Rowan Mayfair; Michael Curry; Ash Templeton
and Patsy.
This,
the tenth book in the series sees Lestat fighting to save
Patsy's ghost from the dark realm of the Earthbound, to uncover
the mystery of the Taltos, and to decide the fate of his beloved
Rowan Mayfair. What more could you ask for?
As
usual, Anne Rice has pulled out all the stops to produce yet
another winner worthy of The Vampire Chronicles label.
Fans of the series will not be disappointed.
