any parent, Angel really wants to understand his son Connor,
but it's hard when life keeps getting in the way. Angel's
overworked, Connor's embarrassed by his dad's taste for blood,
and there are Hyconian demons running rampant through the
streets of LA. That doesn't leave a lot of time for bonding,
especially when a gigantic monolith suddenly appears on Hollywood
                    Boulevard...
                  Nobody
knows what to think of the massive rock with two demon faces
carved into its exterior. The news stations think it's an
elaborate publicity stunt for a recently released movie, and
religious extremists call it a sign of impending apocalypse.
As Angel Investigations struggles to understand what the rock's
appearance means, it becomes clear that Connor and Angel will
have to work together in order to survive.
                  Although
the underlying plot of Monolith is the Angel/Connor
relationship, it just doesn't come across that often and when
it does, I have to admit it is a bit cheesy - Son and Father
put their differences aside in order to save the world - all
                    together now: "Ahhhhhh!"
                  Apart
from said cheese angle, this isn't a too bad read - which
you might find hard to believe when the story is about a giant
rock that just doesn't do much. It does seem (and this is
with most Angel novels) that nothing happens for ages and
then suddenly the climax and conclusion is upon us, yet, its
                    still pretty enjoyable.
                  Not
as funny as the other books in the Angel series, Monolith
is a bit darker, set in season four - when all relationships
were a bit off (Connor and Angel, Angel and Cordelia, Fred
and Gunn, Fred and Wesley). So, its slightly more depressing
                    to be honest.
                  However,
you can expect the good guys to prevail and everyone get a
little bit closer towards the end.
