Stargate SG-1 is arguably one of the finest sci-fi
shows around at present and an illustrated companion has been
a long time in coming. Finally Titan Books has launched a
guide that should have been an item that every SG-1
fan would treasure. For
the most part it is, but sadly the lack of colour illustrations
lets this release down badly.
Thomasina
Gibson writes passionately about the show and it is obvious
that she had a great deal of fun in researching the book.
There are plenty of exclusive entries from the cast and crew
and all in all it does the show credit. But, yet again I can't
help but feel cheated by the lack of any colour photographs.
Titan
Books' work on graphic novels has been well received by fans.
They offer quality reprints that any serious comic nut is
proud to own. What a shame they can't do the same for their
illustrated guides range.
That
said this is still a worthwhile purchase (even though seasons
1 & 2) finished on Channel 4 ages ago and anyone who cares
that much about the series will already know the episodes
off by heart.
If
this had been released a few years ago in colour I would gladly
be giving it 10/10 as it stands (and this is no fault of Gibson
who has done a wonderful job) it breaks my heart to be only
able to really give it 5/10.
