A long-dead feud is restarted via a Gateway and the bloody
war that ensues threats to destabilise a once-quiet region
of space. Trapped in the middle of the violent conflict are
the Star Ships Excalibur and Trident...
Cold
Wars is a meaty volume - over 350 closely-typed pages.
Fortunately, the book justifies its wordage, partly because
the author lets us learn about events in a natural and engrossing
way. However, the majority of the characters seem to have
been cut from some rather stiff Star Fleet cloth which stifles,
rather than hightens, some of the dramatic plot points. Not
that I want Nelix along for the ride, but a more fallible
group of players would have made for a more engrossing read.
But
overall Cold Wars is a solid yarn and the device used
for the chapter headings is quite a nice idea, albeit pointless.
