A lone super-hero in a perfect, childlike world that's made
his profession obsolete, Seaguy has only a floating, cigar
smoking tuna and the cool blue glow of endless TV reruns to
keep him company. When his burning desire for a taste of romance
and adventure leads the naive young sailor into an unexpected
epic quest across seven seas and seven skies, he soon learns
that the awesome secrets of the universe come with a correspondingly
                    terrible price...
                  Seaguy
                    is
one of the funniest and most original graphic novels I've
read in a long, long time. Not only is it damn amusing, but
                    it's also incredibly intelligent.
                  Read
it once and laugh your socks off, read it again and smile
at the subtle jokes that got lost the first time you read
it - or maybe that was me being a little slow on the uptake.
                  Not
only is Seaguy one of the coolest super-heroes (?) but he's
also got the best sidekick on the planet - a talking tuna
fish, called Chubby, whose afraid of water.
                  I
couldn't help wondering whether the character Xoo, who appears
in this collection, was a homage to The
                    New Schmoo
cartoon - remember that? Not only does the name sound similar
(and they keep referring to it as "new Xoo") but
Xoo can also change into anything it wants to. We also meet
the chess playing, gondola owning, Death (there's a truly
                    corny joke about him being black/white colour blind?!!?);
we visit Atlantis; and meet our villain - whose base of operations
will make you chuckle (well, it did me).
                  I
really loved the moon/Egyptian mythology angle that author
Grant Morrison took with this collection. It was a shame that
this was only introduced in the last quarter of this release
                    though.
                  If
you want to be able to pick up a book and read it without
having lived and breathed the character for 20 years (like
some of the recent Superman collections, for example),
then Seaguy is a must buy graphic novel. It might be
quite thin, but what it lacks in size it certainly makes up
                    for in content.
                  There's
                    nothing fishy about this collection!
