Hellboy faces a hungry graverobber as Mignola spins a tale...
a soldier faces
the apocalypse and the betrayal of his own soul... an expedition
to the top of the world finds life where none was expected,
and something else... a dog lingers along the last road he'd
walked... and an Indian holy man makes a gift of his own heart...
The
Dark Horse Book of the Dead is an entertaining collection
of short stories from some of the industries most gifted writers
and artists. This hardback horror anthology is crammed full
of stories designed to suit all tastes. Whether it's horror
with a serious dose of comedy, or just your straight forward
chilling monster story, there's something here that will entertain
you.
Possibly
my favourite tale is Bob Fingerman and Roger Langridge's Death
Boy. This sees a young lad awake in hospital to find Death
at the foot of his bed. The boy is in hospital because he
attempted suicide, and Death has decided to give this boy
"the touch". Now every living thing he touches,
or that touches him, withers and dies instantly.
There's
something chilling, and a little sad, about David Crouse and
Todd Herman's The Ditch. This is concerned with the
last thoughts of a dog that was recently hit by a car and
is dying in a ditch - or is it already dead?
Hellboy
fans will applaud Mike Magnola's The Ghoul - although
I personally didn't think it was up to his usual standard.
Whatever
your taste, there's bound to be a few stories between these
covers to entertain you.
