In this, the second collection of Mike Magnolia's Hellboy
stories, the world's greatest paranormal detective faces a
                    deadly array of mysteries...
                  Hellboy:
The Chained Coffin and Others represents
an interesting collection of short stories.
However, they are a little too short and any real story telling
is lost as Mignola insists on staying true to original folklore
                    - yes, believe it or not, they are all based on legend and
                    myth.
                  Each
story also has a brief introduction by the creator along with
points that he feels let the story down. This is a nice touch.
It's only really the last story which gets things moving,
but it is still over a little too quick.
                  Fans
of the series will be interested to know that we are shown
the origin of Roger the Homunculus in the story Almost
Colossus. And there is an interesting story called The
Wolves of Saint August which deals with the werewolf myth.
                  For
a bite-sized read to dip in and out of this is fine, but as
a good solid graphic novel to tax the mind it fails.
                  One
for those who are looking for a light read.
