A member of the US Air Force being called out to examine
a strange disturbance over tropical waters - the pilot hits
a semi-visible ship and crash lands on an island. He wakes
up to see an alien being attached by some thing unknown, and
then he himself is attacked.
This
is how Arachnid begins. Think it sounds good? - don't
hold your breath, as the movie is, in fact, very, very bad.
I pity the actors who took on these roles, I'm sure they had
to keep themselves from laughing when they saw the very bad
'alien spider' puppet that was their nemesis for this, 'film'.
After
the opining credits, the film picks up in a hospital where
it seems a native from said island had escaped after being
bitten by an unknown species of spider. The doctor, his nurse,
the spider specialist, their pilot and some ex-marines set
out on a mission to discover this new species. Their plane
crash lands on the island and the film then consists of them
trying to stay alive, and finding the spider. You never hear
about the aliens again, apart from the sudden decision that
the spider must be from outer-space, and it ends when they
kill the big bad bugger - but you never see them get off the
island.
Of
course this films ends with the necessary baby spider still
alive, but I beg you - please NO sequel!! It did bring a smile
to my face at a few points, those being how bad the animatronics/puppets
were, and how it looked like bad sci-fi from the early eighties
when CG was in its infancy. They couldn't even disguise the
fact that the spider silk was made of clingfilm!! If it helps
to picture what kind of film this is, take into mind it is
by the same person that made The Hidden, and I did
in fact enjoy that film more!
