Morse must unravel the mystery of a missing college Don
and a mutilated corpse found floating in the canal at nearby
Thrup. When Morse discovers intense rivalry for a prestigious
post at the college has led to murder, he has to find out
which contender is the killer...
The
Last Enemy is adapted from Colin Dexter's Book The
Riddle of the Third Mile and sees the Chief Inspector
stepping on toes at fairly high levels. This earns him a sharp
reprimand from his superiors.
Morse
endeavours to pursue his love interest with his new, female
pathologist, despite a few wise cracks made by Lewis after
he susses the Inspectors' soft spot for her.
Extras
on the disc include an impressive photo gallery, including
an exceptional picture of Morse's 2.4 Jag.
One
of Morse's old cricket friends turns up out of the blue and
then appears to commit suicide. When Morse digs deeper it
seems it was no suicide and another cricket relate death soon
has Morse and Lewis on the case...
Deceived
by Flight has
Lewis is in his element, as he works undercover as a member
of the cricket team. As the case continues Morse stumbles
upon a narcotics investigation and must uncover the Zen riddle
of "the sound of one hand clapping."
Another
excellent episode written by Oscar winning Anthony Minghella,
who also wrote The English Patient. A few soap stars
pop up including a young Chris Tate from Emmerdale
and a young PC Quinnan from The Bill.
Dr
Russel and Lewis get a bit heated discussing the moral issue
of homosexuality and this episode shows just how far technology
has come since the 1980's with an early example of one the
first Motorola mobiles. An excellent episode.
