Recently dead Casper falls off the train to the processing
station [the gateway to the after life] and winds up in Deedstown,
scaring everyone in sight until he discovers he's a ghost.
He soon makes friends with Chris, a 10-year-old boy whose
architect father wants to redevelop an old haunted house into
a mini-mall. But its ghosts inhabitants - Stretch, Stinky
and Fatso - quickly scare off the building workers before
teaching Casper to haunt...
It's
at this point Casper: A Spirited Beginning goes badly
wrong. We're talking evil ghost trainers and bombs and kidnappings
and other stuff just too gross to describe.
This
film is really scary, but not in the way its makers intended.
So beware, Casper: A Spirited Beginning contains illegal
amounts of cheese, rather too much ham and a year's supply
of sickening schmaltz. Nauseating.
It's
love at first fright when Casper Meets Wendy in this
all-new, live-action adventure featuring an all-star cast,
amazing special effects and spook-tacular fun for the whole
family...
... so claims the blurb for Casper Meets Wendy. Oh,
how it lies. When evil warlock Desmond Spellman (George Hamilton)
vows to destroy Wendy the Good Little Witch (Hilary Duff),
she and her witless witch aunts (Cathy Moriarty, Shelley Duvall
and Teri Garr) hide out at Sunny Brite Resort, where the vacationing
trio scare up mischief and make Casper's afterlife miserable.
Half
way through Casper Meets Wendy I remembered that I
needed to worm the cat. Is this film really that bad? Yes,
it ways hard to describe. Best avoided.
