Joe 90 is the world's most audacious secret agent and he's
only 9 years old! Thanks to Ian "Mac" McClaine's machine,
the Brain Impulse Galvanoscope Record And Transfer (or BIG
RAT), he is able to transfer the knowledge and experience
of one person to Joe. BIG RAT becomes the World Intelligence
Network's (W.I.N.) Most guarded and secretive weapon in the
organisation's missions. With the aid of a special pair of
glasses, Joe can now assume the knowledge of any individual
and become an expert in any field of endeavour...
Joe
90 is a much-maligned series. Seen as the inferior successor
to Captain Scarlet, it is often overlooked in the Supermarionation
cannon - a criminal mistake. Joe 90 is everything that
Scarlet wasn't; principally a good show with proper
characters and humour. And this DVD release of the adventures
of the boy spy, Joe, is clear proof.
The
picture quality is 100% while the mono soundtrack is clear
and bright, and although the extras are a little thin on the
ground that can't detract from the overall class of this package.
If only Thunderbirds had been given the same level
of restoration as Joe 90...
For
those of you unfamiliar with Joe 90, the series of
30 episodes, dating back to 1967, deals with the day-to-day
adventures of a nine-year-old boy who can take on the memories
of others in his pursuit of baddies and master criminals.
But don't be mistaken into thinking this is kids stuff. Even
the worst Joe 90 episode has more charm, action and
pace than the best Captain Scarlet yarn.
Extras
on the discs include: Character biographies, Information Files:
World Intelligence Network (W.I.N), Mac's Cottage, BIG RAT
Computer, Mac's Jet Air Craft. Warning sequence footage (Joe's
glasses). 'The Unorthodox Shepherd' location recce. Merchandise.
End titles sequence. End titles source photos. Production
gallery. Joe 90 'I Love The 90s' trailers with Joe
90 in the persona, clothes & voice of Oasis star Liam Gallagher,
comedian Vic Reeves, Garth from Wayne's World and Austin Powers.
Sadly
overlooked and dismissed, Joe 90 is back and looking
better than ever. Buy this box set and marvel at the sheer
quality of its content.
