After a breakdown in communication, SG-1 are dispatched
to planet LV414 to find out what has happened to more than
                    700 recently relocated inhabitants...
                  There
are plenty of fans of sci-fi shows that have created their
own homage to their favourite show. Who hasn't filmed their
friends then paused the camera, asked their friend to move
out of shot and resumed recording? There you have it, your
first Star Trek beam-up special effect. SuperTeam Productions'
Call it a Stargate takes the medium about as far as
you can on a budget of pennies.
                  It
is obvious that the cast and crew of four had a ball putting
this production together. OK, the acting is never going to
win any awards, and I doubt that the real Stargate SG-1
series would use the script for one of their shows, but then
the Canadian/American series has a truck full of money spent
on each episode for costumes, scripts and special effects.
I am reliably informed that only £1.25 was spent on
a couple of cans of cola and a few bananas on this production.
                  The
special effects are incredible - especially when you consider
demo versions of software given away on the front of many
high street computer magazines was used. The effects of the
Stargate, T-Rex and space ship are pretty impressive.
                  Call
                    it a Stargate will
do for Stargate SG-1 fans what Hardware
                    Wars did
for followers of Star Wars. Although, Call it a
Stargate is superior in that the production actually has
an original plot instead of copying straight from an established
                    plot line.
                  We
received a copy of the DVD here in the office which includes
a making of documentary, outtakes and deleted scenes and an
additional commentary. The deleted scenes include a couple
of special effects which were left out of the finished production.
These include a floating alien and a giant snake.
                  This
is a superb production, one that all Stargate SG-1
fans should see. But don't just take my word for it. You can

                  And
even better news, SuperTeam Productions are currently hard
at work on a follow-up that will feature the Replicators and
                    Asgard.
