The second series of Stargate SG-1 can now be purchased
as a box set. This six disc collection is packaged in a rather
attractive box, but the contents of that box simply house
the same discs - including sleeves - that were available from
the episodes original release. This
now means that this collection starts with disc 2 (disc one
in the original release housed the pilot episode and a number
of season one episodes). Would it really have been too much
trouble to reprint the spines?
Also,
no attempt has been made by MGM to delete the season one episodes
which are still tagged on the the final disc in this collection.
So if you have bought the season one box set you will now
have two copies of some episodes.
One
good thing about this collection is that fans of the series
won't feel obliged to rush out and buy the episodes again
hoping for more extras (Star Trek movie DVD releases
are notoriously bad for ripping fans off with this little
scam) there are plenty of extras but no additions to the original
single disc releases.
The
series really starts to gather momentum in the second season,
although it only really starts to shine in season three. But
there are more than a few episodes which help to pave the
way for future plot developments. Secrets sees Sam's
father coming to terms with terminal cancer - a plot device
which is carried through into The Tok'ra two-parter.
The Fifth Race also examines the Nox, Asgard, Ancients
and Furlings relationship and examines the building of the
Stargates.
If
you don't already own these episodes then it is well worth
the £60 asking price but you can pick a lot of these
single discs up for £10 a disc if you look out for high
