When graduate Matt Raymand's prospects for a Wall Street career
fall flat, his pals lure him to Aspen, Colorado, where they
intend to take a year off to ski, snowboard and party. For
a while, Matt thinks he may have met the girl of his dreams,
but there's a complication...
What does the cover of this DVD, with its prominently displayed,
bikini-clad babe, say to you? To me, it says "American
Pie with snow". However, there is a distinct lack of bikini-clad
babes in this movie, which is actually more of a romantic
comedy than a gross-out sex comedy. The only aspect that approaches
grossness in this film is the slobby, drugged-up lifestyle
of Matt's mate Tyler Woods (Justin Urich), who emerges as
a kind of John Belushi or John Candy for the 21st century.
American Pie's Eddie Kaye Thomas (that is, the one
who slept with Stifler's mom) also stars, as a dweeb desperate
to get laid.
A
surprising piece of casting has one-time 007 George Lazenby
playing a bit part as Campbell Grady, an ageing holidaymaker
who offers the boys some pearls of wisdom. The actor is, of
course, used to being on the piste, having done plenty of
skiing in On Her Majesty's Secret Service. In this
movie, Lazenby's character celebrates his 40th anniversary
of married life, which is more than he managed in OHMSS!
Snow
Job isn't a bad movie, but it doesn't really do what it
says on the tin. As a romantic comedy, it's romantic enough,
and it raises a fair few titters along the way, but there
are some awfully cheesy and sentimental voice-overs from Matt
(Milo Ventimiglia).
This
is worth watching... if you have all the time in the world.
