Dick Turpin is terrorising the countryside around Upper Dencher.
Captain Fancey and Sergeant Jock Strapp plan to put an end
to his escapades and enlist the help of the Reverend Flasher.
Little do they know that the priest leads a double life...
Carry
On Dick isn't a classic but there are enough good jokes
and over-the-top performances to save the day. And because
it's a costume piece we are saved the nasty fashions of the
day which has helped protect the film from ageing too badly
although the site of Barbara Windsor flashing her breasts
again is all a little tired and quite unfunny.
However,
where the film does score is in its merciless pillaging of
the merry rural England/highwayman mythology which it does
very well. Just about ever pun that could be wrung from the
scenario is present and correct and it's quite often pretty
funny.
There's
the obligatory commentary and some production snaps as extras
plus an episode of the woeful Carry On TV series to
round of the disc.
