Local hotelier Sidney Fiddler persuades the Mayor to help
improve the image of their rundown seaside town by holding
a beauty contest. But formidable Councillor Prodworthy, head
of the local women's lib, has other ideas...
Carry
On delves into the war of the sexes again for a rather
tired and forgettable addition to the series. Sid James never
falters but the same can't be said for the script which is
a very 'by numbers' affair packed with bosom jokes. But the
biggest crime is that it all looks so cheap, although the
era's fashion sense - or lack of it - doesn't help. Orange
nylon will always look tacky no matter how well it's lit.
There
are extras: a commentary (by Jack Douglas, Patsy Rowlands
and June Whitfield) and an episode of the Carry On
TV series, but neither can lift this disc onto the 'must have'
list.
