South
Dakota, 1959. Kit, who has killed several people, and his
new girlfriend Holly, who watched him do it, are adrift in
a double fantasy of crime and punishment across South Dakota
and Montana. They're playing make-believe but the bullets
and bloodshed are very real...
Badlands
was inspired by true events, the plot and lead characters
of Kit and Holly are based on Charles Starkweather and Caril
Fugate, who in 1958 embarked on a murder spree that horrified
the country.
Probably
more a "chick flick" than a movie for the guys,
this illustrates wonderfully why we should, as our mother's
warn us, "Stay away from that sort".
Martin
Sheen and Sissy Spacek are wonderful as the two lovers for
whom nothing else matter but their happiness - which as you
can imagine is not destined to last forever.
Extras
include a very dated trailer and a documentary which interviews
some of the cast and crew. Although I thought a documentary
on Starkweather and Fugate would have been an interesting
addition, sadly there isn't one.
A
great release, but with few extras.
