Christine Painter is a waitress in a greasy cafe, and on the
side she sublets flat's to prostitutes. When the prostitutes
avoid paying the rent, Painter's landlord demands that she
pays it one way or another, so she gives him a little hand
relief. From this small introduction into the seedy world
of paid for sex, Painter escalates her operation - her speciality
is sex parties for elderly gentlemen and their proclivities...

                  Personal
Services is loosely based on Cynthia Payne and her notorious
House of Cyn. Payne acted as a consultant on the movie, but
we are told at the beginning and end of the movie that this
                    is not her story.
                  This
is not a laugh out loud comedy, but there are plenty of chuckles
to be had along the way - most of which are at just how sad
men can be when they think with their genitalia.
                  Julia
Walters is perfect as the slightly innocent woman, who is
brought onto the sex scene by mistake - both
Walters and screenwriter David Leland were BAFTA-nominated.
                  There
are plenty of bizarre cameo parts played by middle aged men
                    in drag, but having them
trotting out every five minutes gets a little tiresome after
a while. Once is funny, half a dozen times is irritating.
We got the joke the first time. In truth this is very much
like an over used Monty Python joke which is spun out
for one and a half hour.
                  No
extras, which is excusable for a "Classic Collection"
release, apart from the original trailer which sees director
Terry Jones (of Monty Python fame) deliver possibly
a funnier performance than is seen through the majority of
the movie. Not really a classic movie, but for £10 it's
                    worth a look.
