Follow the dramatic history of life on earth from its very
beginnings, some 3.5 billion years ago, to the final emergence
of man and the array of animals that share the world with
us today...
First
broadcast in 1979, Life On Earth examines the incredible
variety of the world's wildlife and its evolution. David Attenborough
and his team of cameramen, producers and scientific advisers
bring to the screen some quite remarkable images, which will
have a lasting impact on any audience.
This
series was the biggest ever undertaken by the Natural History
Unit at the time, using over a million feet of film and 100
locations. Life On Earth also established David Attenborough
and the award-winning Natural History Unit at the forefront
of wildlife documentary filmmaking.
This
collection is still as fresh today as it was back in 1979.
Okay, Mr Attenborough's clothes and hairstyle may look very
much out of date, but otherwise, this is as entertaining and
informative as it was when it was first broadcast.
If
you have children at home, this would make an excellent purchase
as they are bound to learn more in one episode of this series,
about the planet they live on, than they will in a year at
school.
The
only extra is a 30 min making of programme which was originally
broadcast in 1979. What would have been interesting would
have been a short modern documentary that looked back at the
series and informed the viewer of how many creatures featured
in the original programme have now become extinct thanks to
mans ongoing quest to destroy the planet.
A
wonderfully presented collection.
