The Monk is a martial arts master whose duty has been to protect
a powerful ancient scroll. Faced with finding the scroll's
next guardian, the Monk's quest brings him to New York City
where, to his disbelief, it appears his successor is a smart-mouthed
pickpocket named Kar. As the Monk instructs Kar, the unlikely
duo become partners in protecting the scroll from a power-monger
who's been chasing it for 60 years. Amidst high-flying acrobatics
and martial arts action, this odd couple has to work together
to keep the scroll - and mankind - safe...
Bulletproof
Monk was
one of those movies that I never got around to seeing when
it was released theatrically. In fact when I first saw the
movie posters I thought it was joke - I mean the title sounds
ridiculous doesn't it?
However,
this is a fairly entertaining movie which is a perfect vessel
for Chow Yun-Fat. Seann
William Scott, more famous as Steve
Stifler in the American Pie movies, is also well cast
as Kar. Watch out for William Scott in the future. He is certainly
a rising Hollywood star - in fact on more than one occasion
he resembled a young Harrison Ford.
There
are plenty of thrills and spills along the way, but this movie
will be best received by the under 18 age group - it is a
little too corny to be taken seriously by adults.
Extras
include audio commentary with director Paul Hunter and producers
Charles Roven and Douglas Segal; featurette The Tao of
Monk; Featurette The Monk Unrobed; Behind the scenes;
Photo gallery; and deleted scenes.
Also
I found the animated menus extremely funny. These have little
stick men fighting and running around the screen - sounds
childish, but it is remarkably entertaining.
An
above average family movie.
