Scooby and the Mystery Inc. gang head south of the border
to visit a friend and end up trying to solve the mysterious
appearance of the Chupacabra - Mexico's very own Big Foot.
Knee knocking chills and side-splitting thrills accompany
the meddling kids and their pesky dog as they attempt to solve
their hottest mystery yet...
Trying to capture the magic of the original series in a full
length feature was never going to be easy. The originals worked
because they were short and to the point. Sadly, so far, the
new full length episodes have been rather disappointing.
Monster
of Mexico almost works. While the gang are still wearing
the same outfits they were in the 60s there has been an attempt
to bring Scooby and the gang up to date. They all have e-mail
now and there is even mention of an amusing website - which
sadly doesn't exist if you try looking for it on the Internet.
There
are more than a few references to the Wizard of Oz
- which are quite well slotted into the story, and there are
even some jokes that will make you smile. This almost feels
like a classic episode... almost. Sure the jokes are corny,
the dialogue hammy and the "ghosts" logic unfathomable,
but as kiddy entertainment this isn't too bad.
Extras
include The Making of Monster of Mexico - a look behind
the scenes; Scripted Commentary - Watch the movie with the
gang; Out-take and a What's New Scooby Doo Trailer.
