'Tis
the night before Christmas, and the Muppet theatre is in danger
of being torn down. And when bad goes to worse, Kermit begins
to believe the world would be a better place if he'd never
been born. But don't worry! With heavenly help and send-ups
of just about every holiday movie ever made, Kermit and the
Muppets discover what matters most is their love for each
other...
Makes
you feel sick doesn't it? Well that's what I thought until
I sat down and started watching this, the latest Muppet
movie to be released on DVD and Video. And I have to say I
was pleasantly surprised. Okay, not enough to start recommending
that everyone buy this, but it is pretty entertaining and,
dare I say it, funny in places - they even put on their own
Christmas musical Moulin
Scrooge.
There
are plenty of celebrity guests including David Arquette, Joan
Cusack (who seriously overacts to the point where you start
to think that the Muppets should be Oscar nominees) and Whoopi
Goldberg (playing God). There are also brief cameos by (mostly
unknown actors over here in the UK) Matthew Lillard, William
H. Macy, Carson Daly, Kelly Ripa, Joe Rogan, Molly Shannon
and the cast of Scrubs.
Oh,
and before you start to think that Fozzie is sounding more
and more like Yoda (both characters are voiced by Frank Oz)
there is a brief appearance by a Muppet Yoda - very funny.
It
is a much better movie than you'd expect, but it's still the
Muppets.
