Adventurer Allan Quatermain is in search for his missing brother, Robeson, who had set out to find the mythological Lost City of Gold. Along for the ride are Quatermain's fiancée Jessie Huston, an ageing warrior and a self proclaimed mystic. But, when the party reaches its destination they find more than they bargained for...

Allan Quatermain and the Lost City of Gold has a promising beginning. Some of the scenery is breathtaking and it looks as though this might not be at all bad.

James Earl Jones (the voice of Darth Vader in Star Wars) hams it up beautifully as the ageing warrior, but the rest of the cast are weak - some even pathetic. Take, for example one of the queen's of the Lost City of Gold. Now, she is either a relative of the producer, or had to perform a very special act (if you know what I mean) to secure her role.

It got to the point where I couldn't understand what was going on. Gold was melting for no good reason - apart from the fact that Richard Chamberlain was hitting a large lion with an axe while sparks fly from it.

Towards the end it seemed like everyone just gave up hope of producing anything half decent. There is even a scene with a stuntman falling where you can clearly see two wires lowering him down.

Watchable, until they reach the Lost City. After that you'd be advised to switch off.
