Shakespeare's
tale of star-crossed lovers and feuding families leads to
great tragedy. The Montagues and the Capulets, are bitter
enemies, sworn to hatred. Yet when their children, Romeo and
Juliet, inadvertently meet, they fall passionately in love.
Defying their parents' wishes they are secretly married, but
their happiness is short lived...
This
production, made especially for video, stars Christopher Neame
as Romeo and Ann Hasson as Juliet. Like
most romantics, I'm a great lover of this story, even though
it does end in heartbreak. Unfortunately I found this film
very hard to watch and quite laughable in places as some of
the acting is very much questionable. Having said that let's
not forget this was made in 1976.
This
DVD comes with no extras, which is a shame as I'm sure more
people would think of buying it if they thought they had a
chance of understanding what everyone was saying!
However,
one plus side for this DVD is the scene index as it lays out
all of the acts and you can select the chapters you want to
see. Unless you need a copy for study purposes; I'd give this
one a big miss.
Very
disappointing.
