The head of a student political party is arrested and without his strong leadership, the group begins to fall apart The new leader, Masami, tries to keep control be using her sexuality, but this leads to the spread of paranoia and distrust, which soon turns to violence and madness.

First of all I would very much like to say that Kichiku is probably one of the most brutal films I have ever watched (and I have watched quite a few). The basic premise of the film is that when Japan was going through great political turmoil in the sixties and seventies, students were forming political parties to try and make sense of the world in which they were living in. This tale centres on one such group where the only thing that they seem to have in common is their ignorance and fear of each other.

I do not want to give too much away as regards to plot, but one thing that I will say is that this film is unflinchingly violent. If you do not have a strong stomach then it is advised that you leave this DVD on the shelf.

The DVD itself is similar to the European release a year ago apart from a few glaring differences. In the Artsmagic version you have interviews with the cast and director, trailers, a making of documentary and reactions to a Kichiku short.

All in all, this is a good package for one of the most extreme films I have seen in a long time. So if you do not have a strong stomach then you are better avoiding it. But if you can handle it and want to see what the fuss is about then I do recommend this disc. Just don't say I didn't warn you.
