Including biographical elements, this movie centres around
the home and school life of a young boy, whose family mix
the violent and dysfunctional with the comic and loveable...
Though
containing elements of the sudden and shocking brutality that
many associate with this director, Young Thugs: Nostalgia
is more concerned with a child's moment of leaving the
internalised world of fantasy, and passing on eagerly to the
next stage of life.
Of
all of Takashi Miike films I have seen, this has to be the
most down to earth and mature. That's not to say that the
director does not have his fun once in a while. But this study
of a boy turning into a man and also how his family deals
with that, is touching, heart-warming and at times, quite
funny.
It is nice and refreshing to see that as a director he can
put you through a whole spectrum of emotions with his films.
And miike takashi can certainly do that. The DVD itself has
a director interview, trailer and the usual biographies.
All
in all, worth a look but if you are an action fan, just be
aware that this is a whole new kettle of fish.
