Houston cop Jack Caine thought he'd dealt with every kind
of crime on earth, but now someone is using human bodies to
manufacture narcotics... someone - or something - not of this
world. Reluctantly partnered with FBI agent Laurence Smith,
Kane begins to realise that an alien presence is on the streets
collecting a priceless intergalactic drug that can only be
found in the human brain...
Dark
Angel (or to give it it's original title I Come in
Peace - which actually works better) is very much a victim
of late '80s / early '90s fashion. Dolph Lundgren (more famous
for playing He-Man in the 1987 movie Masters
of the Universe)
walks around with a haircut that Patrick Swayze would have
been embarrassed by in the '80s.
The
plot is simple: An alien has arrived on earth and is randomly
picking his victims. He injects them with heroin - enough
to kill them and then uses a device to suck the endorphins
out of their body. This can be sold on his home planet for
a small fortune. An alien cop is after him, but the clock
is ticking and if the alien drug runner returns home with
his prize, more aliens will arrive to suck the human race
dry. Oh and a human cop and his FBI minder stumble upon the
two aliens and then help save the day (sorry, but I doubt
that I've spoiled much that wasn't obvious).
The
plot is not a million miles away from The
Terminator
- sadly it's nowhere near as entertaining, nor has it aged
as well. Some of the acting is laughable... and as for the
fight with the alien heroin syringe... the less said the better.
There
are no extras on this release, but then I can't think of any
reason that there should be.
If
you loved this movie when it was first released you might
want to pick it up for nostalgia. Otherwise, avoid like the
plague.
