There is something truly romantic about the story of Troy
and the war that was fought over the beautiful Helen, the
face that launched a thousand ships. The heroes were mighty,
Paris, Achilles, Hector, Menelaos and Agamemnon to name but
a few, and the tale could not be told without the notorious
wooden horse that has gone down in history as one of the greatest
acts of military strategy ever devised...
Troy:
For Love and War digs
deep into the legend of Troy examining mythological figures
including Helen, Achilles and Homer. This DVD reveals the
origin of a number of popular modern day sayings including
"Achilles heel", "The face that launched a
thousand ships" and "Beware Greeks
bearing gifts." It
also looks at more modern elements including the famous Elgin
Marbles.
Beautifully
illustrated with exotic shots of foreign lands, old illustrations
and photographs, this DVD merely scratches the surface of
its topic, but it does provide enough information to whet
the appetite of anyone who wants to learn a little of the
background information.
Sadly
the narration on this release lacks any passion. It's a bit
like listening to a school teacher droning on and on about
a subject that they don't really have any interest in teaching.
This is a shame, because with a little more enthusiasm this
could have been a lot better.
The
fact that this is available for the paltry sum of £2.99
is amazing. I'd snap this up while you can - just don't expect
too much.
