The bellringers of Midsomer Wellow are preparing for the local
Striking Competition which is due to be hosted at their church.
Not everybody sees this as a great honour for the community
                    - some of the villagers find the noise made by the ringers
is the bane of their lives. When the bellringer and womaniser
Greg Tutt is shot dead, Barnaby and Troy are called in to
investigate. But what is the motive for the murder; a jealous
husband, a disgruntled villager or a rival team from the competition?...

                    Out Your Dead
was first broadcast on 15 September 2002. From the start,
this episode really grip the viewer with its excellent opening
sequence that transports us back to the 1840s to show the
historical murder of the Reverent Johnathon Ebbrel.
                  Then
we jump back to the present day. Midsomer's campanologists
(that's bellringers for those not in the know) are preparing
for the striking competition much to the annoyance of some
of the villagers. But are they annoyed enough to commit murder?

                  This
episode is well paced and there is plenty of flesh on the
script to ensure that the viewer is never left in any doubt
that the writers were stretching their material to the max.
                  There
is an injection of comedy as Troy manages to get himself into
a spot of bother after the nymphomaniac Lady of the Manor
                    takes a fancy to him.
                  The
extras on this disc are not exclusive to this release and
                    are all repeated on A
Worm in the Bud. Fans of the series may feel
a little cheated, especially when you consider that other
series', like Inspector Morse, offered two episodes
(and discs) in one package for £2 less.
                  Ring
Out Your Dead flows well and will keep all amateur sleuths
guessing right up until the end. A very enjoyable episode.
