After
wandering around, far from her home of Tokyo, a young woman
called Yukari is taken into a homeless shelter. It is here
that we discover that Yukari has a psychic ability to read
people. Soon the counsellor who runs the shelter finds that
Yukari is not sleeping well and offers to put her up at her
house. Yuakri soon notices that the counsellor has 13 pictures
in her house, all drawn by the same girl; a girl that suffers
from a multiple personality disorder...
Isola
is based on a Japanese book and sadly the translation has
not gone well. There is nothing wrong with this film if you
look at the ingredients, but one thing it does suffer from
is the fact that it is boring as hell. No matter how much
effort is put into creating an atmosphere, it just seems blown
apart by very slow pacing and shoddy writing.
I'm
sorry to say but this film seems to have missed the boat when
it comes to Japanese horror, as it makes it very difficult
to actually empathise with any of the characters. The result
of this is a film that is boring, being played out by people
you can't really care about.
The
film does look quite good on disc however, with plenty of
strong colours and good sound to match.
Extras
wise, we have a trailer collection and some interviews which
don't last very long.
All
in all, if you want to see a dull Japanese thriller/horror,
then I can't recommend this enough.
