The Flintstones band wagon was rolling full
logs ahead by its third year. They always had a solid fan
base but now critics, who had surprisingly short-changed the
"cartoon show" two years prior, were won over...
The
third season of The Flintstones sees yet another collection
of classic comic capers from everyone's favourite animated
Stone Age family.
Many
episodes in this season parodied then current culture:
The Twitch spoofed the Twist craze, Hawaiian Escapade
poked fun at the TV series Hawaiian Eye and Dial
"S" for Suspicion tweaked the plot of the movie
Dial M for Murder into comic farce. The most famous
of the 28 episodes in this 4-disc collection is the birth
of Pebbles in Dress Rehearsal.
I
wasn't entirely sure how this collection was put together,
as a few of the opening episode in this box set still had
the "Rise and Shine" opening titles - which was the opening
theme for seasons one and two.
But it's not long before the familiar "Yabba-Dabba-Doo!" theme
replaces "Rise and Shine".
In
this season we learn that Mr Slate is Barney's long lost uncle;
Barney turns invisible; Barney impersonates a baby to impress
Fred's rich uncle; Barney and Fred visit the dentist; Fred
posses as a burglar; Fred gets all the attention when Barney
save a baby from certain doom; and Pebbles is born into the
Flintstone household.
Extras
are a little thin on the ground. All we get are Bedrock
Collectibles: a seven minute featurette with Scott Shaw
- an avid collector and Flintstones cartoonist; First
Families of the Stone Age: a seven minute featurette that
looks at the role Wilma and Betty played in the series, as
well as a quick look at Pebbles and Bam Bam; and a handful
of trailers for other releases.
But,
who cares about extras when there are so many classic Flintstones
episodes in one collection? This is incredibly good value
for money.
