The year is 2017 and successful businessman Sam Treadwell
finds that his android wife, Cherry model 2000 has blown a
fuse. Treadwell hires sexy renegade tracker E. Johnson to
find her exact duplicate. But as their journey to replace
his perfect mate leads them into the treacherous and lawless
region of The Zone, Treadwell learns the hard way that the
perfect woman is made not of computer chips and diodes, but
                    of real flesh and blood...
                  Cherry
                    2000 from
1987 is a b-movie that has acquired cult movie status over
the years. I have to admit that I hadn't previously seen this
film, and the very dated looking cover sleeve didn't look
                    promising.
                  It
was something of a surprise to discover that Cherry 2000
is actually a pretty well paced, acted and produced movie.
Melanie Griffith stars as the sexy, no nonsense tracker E.
Johnson who takes up the challenge of heading out into the
wastelands in order to track down a replacement chassis of
an old model of robot that long went out of production - the
                    Cherry 2000.
                  In
a world where sexual intercourse between humans is a complicated
and expensive affair, most - who can afford it - prefer to
buy robots that perform the role of a loving partner. However,
it would seem that the Cherry 2000 is nothing more than a
beautiful, sycophantic, childlike machine that fulfils every
                    wish of its owner.
                  There
are plenty of subtle gags and twists on this movie's take
on the future. Sexual relationships are mainly conducted through
special clubs where individuals show off their previous conquests
on holographic displays to potential mates. Once both adults
are up for progressing this relationship further lawyers are
brought in and a contract is hammered out that specifies exactly
what can and can't be performed and over how long a period
                    of time.
                  The
attention to detail is also impressive and there are some
pretty fantastic looking sets. I loved the "Last Chance
                    Brothel and Gas" stop.
                  Don't
let the cover fool you. This is a very entertaining romp.
