A year after brilliant psychopath Shin Hyun has handed himself
in and admitted to the brutal and grisly murders of six girls,
a spate of copycat killings rock the city. In an effort to
trap the killer, the police force assign the detective who
worked on the original case with a brash new partner. The
detectives interview Shin Hyun on death row, but only receive
the most cryptic of answers leading them to apprehend several
possible suspects. As the search becomes ever more frantic
the murders continue. How many more must die before the killers
demented masterpiece is complete...?
Most
movies in the thriller genre have something that stands out.
Sometimes it's a twist that makes the film so memorable, or
sometimes there are subtle elements that make it stand out
form the crowd. H has none of them, but it still stands
out as an extremely well made thriller.
It borrows its tone and style from many Hollywood thrillers
(such as Se7en) and seems better off for it. The acting
is first class and you really do end up feeling for these
particular Korean cops. They go through an awful lot for their
job.
This
is quite a bloody film and whilst the gore is not excessive,
it does make you feel like you need a bath (or shower) afterwards.
Extra on this DVD are a touch lacking. All we get are an alternate
opening, some deleted scenes and some extensive film notes.
Fortunately Tartan have included a lovely DTS audio track
that makes the film stand out that much more.
If
you like your thrillers then this is for you. If you prefer
things less intense then steer clear. Also, if you want to
know why the film is called H then you will have to
wait till the end of the film. But it is worth waiting for.
