As the evil General Grievous gains power among the nefarious
Separatist faction, the Jedi Knights find themselves faced
with a growing threat and an expansion of the calamitous Clone
Wars. Against this epic backdrop, Star Wars fans will
discover fascinating answers to long-held questions: Exactly
who, or what, is Grievous, and how did he develop his incessant
cough? How does Anakin transform from a promising young Padawan
learner to full Knighthood as a Jedi...?
Volume
Two of the Star Wars: Clone Wars animated series
sees another slice of action as Jedi Knights Anakin Skywalker
and Obi-Wan Kenobi continue their action filled quest to bring
peace to a galaxy consumed by conflict. This
collection takes us up to the events that are told in the
final Star Wars movie - Episode III - Revenge of
the Sith.
The
animation may seem oddly familiar. That's because the creative
genius behind classic cartoon shows including Dexter's
Laboratory and Samurai Jack, Genndy
Tartakovsky, is behind this series. The
format of the show, when originally broadcast, was three minute
episode. For the DVD release Fox has kindly edited them into
a feature length episode.
Extras
are pretty impressive too. In fact, there's one extra that
is worth the price of the DVD on it's own... but more of that
in a moment. Features include a round table audio commentary;
Connecting the Dots (10 minute behind the scenes featurette);
Star Wars: Battlefront II
trailer and Xbox demo (just stick this in your Xbox and you
can sample some of the action); Empire at War PC game
trailer; stills gallery, sketches and storyboards, and, my
favourite, Revenge of the Brick, 5 minute featurette.
Connecting
the Dots explains why some of the earlier episodes of
Clone Wars didn't tie up to well with the Star Wars
movies. This was down to the fact that characters, like General
Grievous, hadn't been fully developed when work on the animated
show started. So, in this instalment, the writers tackle the
fact that General Grievous looked slightly different in previous
episodes to how he appeared in the movies.
Revenge
of the Brick is a hilarious CGI Lego spoof that alone
is worth the £16 price tag of this DVD. If you don't
find this funny then it's either because you have no sense
of humour (If you find My Family amusing, then it's
probably safe to bet that you don't have any idea what is
humorous) or you are dead. The end credits, which sees a Lego
Darth using his lightsabre to conduct an orchestra of clone
troopers as they play the Imperial March, is one of
the funniest things I've seen in ages (maybe I should get
out more).
This
is a fantastic collection that kids and adults will thoroughly
enjoy.
