Earth,
twenty-second century, five years after the rebellion on Mars.
For 15 years, Chancellor Victor Sopot has oppressed the people
of the Commonwealth. His corrupt rule and a relentless war
of unification with the United Republic has left the Commonwealth
bloodied and impoverished. As distant battles rage, sewage
taints Sopot City's rivers, pollution smudges the sky, and
wretched citizens huddle in crumbling ruins. The Public Information
Building, built by the dictator as a tribute to himself, broadcasts
lies about Sopot's bravery and the Commonwealth's military
victories. Condemned to death by Chancellor Sopot, six super-soldiers
unite to save their country, vowing to overthrow Sopot using
the unique powers that nano-technology has given them...
The
Faction Is Back! Allowing you to fight alongside an elite
squad of soldiers to complete your mission - eliminate the
corrupt dictator of the commonwealth. Destroy the environment
in real time using 14 different weapons plus dual handed combinations.
You can also take out enemies with combat vehicles. 4 player
split screen action with customisable bots. Play death match,
capture the flag, bagman, arena and team variations of each
on 60 maps.
Fans
of the hero of the last game will be saddened to learn that
Parker doesn't make an appearance in Red Faction II.
This game is set a few years after the original and you play
Alias, a nanotech-enhanced soldier who
is a demolition expert. You also have the aid of five
members of an elite squad (Molov,
Repta, Shrike, Tangier, and Quill) - each with their
own speciality.
Many
of the problems with the first game have been resolved including
the long loading times and the rather dull multi-player games
which never provided quite enough entertainment.
This
game features a host of new vehicles to drive as well as an
increased amount of weaponry. It also features
an enhanced Geo-Mod engine that allows players to destroy
walls, floors and anything else that gets in the way.
Up to four players can play head to head. And it is possible
to choose from deathmatch, capture the flag, bagman or arena
modes. We've been playing this in the office for the last
couple of days and have had a lot of fun blowing each other
up for light relief.
There
are some slight problems, like the frame rate flickering if
a little too much action is happening on the screen, but If
you are a Doom/Quake fan, then you are going
to have to pick this up! A must for any serious shoot-em-up
gamer's collection.
