The year is 2741 AD. The democratic and freedom caring Northern
Star Alliance (NSA) is being hard pressed by the warmongeirng
Terran Empire. The war has recently entered a new stage; a
brutal and deadly ground war, as the Empire has managed to
land their first troopships on the last NSA controlled planet
- Morningstar Prime. Captain Jacob Angelus, a battle-hardened
officer in the NSA armed forces, finds himself becoming the
central figure in the war against the Terran Empire. The situation
is desperate and for the NSA destiny is at hand; its only
hope lies in an ancient legend...
Ground
Control II: Operation Exodus is
a pretty impressive real-time action-strategy game that dumps
you in the middle of a futuristic battlefield where only brilliant
tactics will prevail. Set roughly 300 years after the events
of the previous game in the series, Operation Exodus
looks beautiful and plays extremely well.
One
of the nice touches in this game is the line-of-site gameplay.
You can only see the enemy when they are close to you, which
makes for harder, more enjoyable, tacticle play - not to mention
making it more realistic.
Not
only do you get to battle against other humans, but the introduction
of the mean aliens known as Virons helps to add another interesting
angle to this game.
The
only real hinderance is the camera, which can be rotated in
all directions, but remains at a fixed level above the ground.
This means that as your troops move through unlevel terrain
the camera adjusts itself so that it always stays the same
distance from the ground. This can be a real pain when you
are fighting on a steep environment or areas like bridges
- as the camera moves all over the place.
If
you are fan of this genre of games, then you are going to
love Operation Exodus. All
in all, this is a fantastic game that only suffers from minor
bugs.
