Using the same hands-on military planning found in the original
Risk
board game, players now see battles come to life in vivid
3D environments, get advice from historic military leaders,
and earn medals and special dice for strategic accomplishments...
Ah...
long summers at your grandparents playing board games in the
conservatory. That's what Risk means to me. And now
Atari have brought the game to the console market, finally.
One
of my fondest memories of university (or at least one of my
printable fondest memories) was sitting in the computer labs
playing Risk on the Apple Macs. This new version is
infinitely better in almost every aspect.
The
one major disappointment is the length of the turn times.
With the Apple Mac version you could finish your moves fairly
swiftly. Here, it takes an age. So, playing against a human
opponent can be rather dull.
The
game is challenging, requiring a mix of luck and tactical
planning and there are customisable elements that were not
available with the original board game. These include Mission
Risk, Capital Risk, and many others. You can also play against
other opponents online.
If
you love the board game, then this is just as much fun. Although
it might be an idea to try before you buy - you don't want
to risk being disappointed.
