I
know I shouldn't have, but I couldn't help remembering the
South Park episode (Cartman Land) where Eric
Cartman inherits enough money to buy his own theme park.
RollerCoaster
Tycoon 3 is similar in design to the previous games in
the series. You build your rides and attempt to get attendance
up to bring in the money. Constructing the rides is easy enough,
once you get the hang of it. And to save you messing around,
trying to get the last piece of track to marry up with the
first part of the track you laid, this can now be achieved
automatically.
There
are a few extra tweaks that make this game a must buy for
those that already own the first two instalments.
To
begin with there are more variety of rides, park decorations
and guests than previously. But the main addition is the ability
to jump on board your rides - viewing them from a number of
different cameras.
You
can also add special effects including earthquake tremors
and monster attacks; thrill park guest with pyrotechnics to
boost the popularity of the rides; change the weather from
burning sun to hurricane winds; use themed content to attract
different groups of visitors; change the themes from generic
to spooky to western; and tag individuals and groups to check
where they are in the park. You
can also import your own music (via MP3 files) to customise
the rides and make the fireworks dance in sync. to the music.
This
is one of those games that you will play for hours at a time,
can leave for a month or two and then will get the urge to
dig it out again and play for another couple of days.
Almost
as much fun as a day at a real theme park.
