Raikoh, the famed undead warrior, managed to temporarily save
the Japanese population from an onslaught of demons, but had
not been able to vanquish them all before returning to his
grave. The demons have now resurfaced from hiding places within
the sacred capital of Japan, and they are attempting to take
control of man once more. In response, five brave warriors
take their own lives in a ritual to resurrect Raikoh. Raikoh
rises again and the five selfless warriors rise with him,
all set to take on the encroaching demon spawn as a team...
Otogi
2: Immortal Warriors takes place directly after the events
chronicled in the original Otogi: Myth of Demons -
a game which pushed the graphics and hard drive capability
of the Xbox to new heights. A sequel is certainly welcomed,
but how can it possibly improve (or even compare) on the first
instalment.
The
short answer is that Immortal Warriors fairs very well
indeed. In fact, this is a text book example of how to successfully
design a sequel.
This
time around Raikoh is joined by five playable characters.
These include a wolf, a half-demon woman, a big fat man, a
woman with big hair and a tree.
There
are over 30 levels to complete, and once you've completed
each level you can return at any time to replay it. This is
worth doing as it can help you progress through the later
levels a lot more smoothly.
The
graphics and gameplay are impressive (the backgrounds look
like beautiful 3D paintings) and the music is haunting. For
those gamers who love an intelligent and well designed fighting
RPG adventure, this is certainly worth checking out.
